How Great Thou ART

Three-day art class by Professional Artist Barry Stebbing
Sponsored by Harmony Home Educators, November 13-15, 2003

Print Registration Form

Barry Stebbing, creator of How Great Thou ART Publications, and his wife, Saundra, have traveled the US and Canada for several years specifically directing their art ministry to home educated students. They desire to plant seeds of inspiration, encouragement and direction in students. Barry’s vision is to raise up a higher standard in the fine arts and to reclaim the arts to glorify God, in order that art may once again touch the heart of man. Because God is a Creator and an Artist, the Stebbings believe that God has given everyone a certain level of joy and ability in art that should be nurtured and developed. Art is a discipline, like every other academic subject, and can be learned through a willingness to improve. Parents are encouraged to either take the class (it will boost your own confidence level in teaching art!) or to come as observers. An assignment will be given on the first day to complete at home.

Class Objectives

The purpose of this course is to inspire the students to do good works, to show them that God has given each and every one of them the ability to create, and to teach them that drawing and painting are learned disciplines. In addition, the course will include:

1. Beginning drawing;
2. Beginning painting;
3. Techniques in the use of colored pencils;
4. Techniques in the use of colored markers;
5. An introduction to art appreciation (studying the great masters)

What to Bring

  • Each student will need their own set of 12 colored pencils (Prismacolors are recommended) and 8 washable markers. Sharing is not permitted because Mr. Stebbing calls for specific colors for each assignment. Students may bring their own art supplies or purchase them the day of the class. A set of 12 Prismacolor pencils is $7; sets of 24 are $13. Watercolor markers are $4 for a set of 8. All other materials will be provided as part of the class.
  • A snack, if desired
