Welcome...

Select an evaluator from the column to your left.  You will then be able to view their contact information and offers.

This list of evaluators is provided as a service to the homeschool community. Harmony Home Educators, as a group, does not endorse or recommend evaluators.

Informational listings are submitted by each evaluator.  It is your responsibility as the parent or guardian, to determine the qualifications of the evaluator you choose.

Before choosing your evaluator, do your homework.  Read the law.  Ask other homeschoolers about their evaluators.  Decide what you are looking for in an evaluator.  It is important for your evaluator to understand what you are trying to do.  Try to get a written agreement about what each evaluator you consider will expect from you.  Arrange fees in advance.  Respect your evaluator by keeping any appointments you make.

Elementary and secondary evaluations (K-12)

I evaluate all grade levels, including special needs students. (Any evaluator may evaluate a child labeled as having special needs. PA certification in special education is needed only for the pre-approval.)
I work with families in over 100 districts across the state. (My qualifications to do evaluations do not need to be pre-approved by districts, so I can evaluate in all districts.)
I do evaluations from mid-February through June (and later for those who miss the June 30th deadline).
Families can start contacting me as early as late November to schedule.
Charges for in-person evaluations:

  • For one child: $40
  • For two children: $65 total
  • For three or more children: $85 total.

Charges for distance evaluations are lower.
I also charge a one-time $10 per family fee, if it is the first year that I work with a family.

I accept credits for three diploma program -- Erie, Susquehanna Valley and Mason-Dixon -- and work with families using all approaches to homeschooling, including relaxed and unschoolers.

Elementary evaluations (K-6) with approval from district

Secondary evaluations (7-12) with approval from district

I do evaluations in June only.
Please contact me by December.

Because I am not a certified teacher, you will need time to obtain permission from your school district for me to evaluate your students by virtue of the "other qualifications" mentioned in Act 169. Email me, and I will send you a letter listing my "other qualifications" which you can submit to your school district.

$40 for one, with discounts for multiple children.
I prefer to evaluate in my home, but I will travel if necessary.
I am seeking registration with Mason-Dixon.

Secondary evaluations (7-12)

I am a Pennsylvania State Certified Secondary Teacher, and am approved to evaluate secondary level home school students in PA.
I have been home schooling my children for 16 years, and was a member of Harmony Home Educators for 14 years.

A typical evaluation is performed as follows:
I meet with the child and parent(s) to explain the evaluation process.
Then I interview the student alone along with his/her portfolio.
I review the student's attendance log to ensure that the required number of days of education has been met.
I prepare a written assessment of whether the child received an appropriate education for the year.
I charge $40.00 for each child.

Elementary evaluations (K-6)

(Tunkhannock and Carbondale do not accept high school evaluations from me)

I do evaluations all year long.

To ensure an appointment, contact me in April or May.

I will do last minute evaluations, if my schedule permits.

$40 for one and discounts for multiple children

Due to excessive travel with my job, I am able to offer evaluations in the Luzerne,

Susquehanna, Wyoming and Lackawanna County areas. Depending on the request,

there may be a travel fee associated with this option. I will continue to offer

evaluations in my home, if needed. I do have a full-time job, therefore evaluations are

done during evening hours and weekends.

I am registered with PA Homeschoolers (PHAA) and Mason-Dixon, but prefer to do

     Mason Dixon high school evaluations.
